Portugal seals knockout place
Portugal secured a spot in the round of 16 at the European Championship with a convincing 3-0 win over Turkey in Dortmund on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The victory means that Portugal finishes top of Group F, while Turkey's hopes of reaching the knockout stages are all but over.
Portugal dominated the match from start to finish, and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 15th minute. The defeat was Turkey's fourth consecutive loss to Portugal at the European Championship. The aggregate score in those four matches now stands at 8-0, which is a joint record along with Iceland's record against France. Turkey has now lost their last three matches at the European Championship, and they have failed to score in their last four matches.
Portugal's win means that they will face the runners-up from Group E in the round of 16, while Turkey will face the winners of Group E. The round of 16 matches will be played on June 29 and 30.
